About the Artist
Karen grew up in Minnesota and while attending the local public school became interested in art. She continued her interest by majoring in art education and taught for 15 years in Minnesota and Japan. While teaching at an international school in Tokyo, she studied sumi-e (ink painting) and Nihonga (Japanese painting). Karen moved back to Minnesota to finish her graduate work in Japanese art history at the University of Minnesota.
For many years Karen painted in watercolor and studied with Cheng Khee Chee through the Split Rock Arts Program. Karen exhibits with the Lake Country Pastel Society
